The Diving Medical Responder Course, approved by the Florida Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for 32 hours of Continuing Education, has been updated to include water training. This four-day course consists of both classroom and pool training sessions.

The course is designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills to handle diving emergencies. It is suitable for public safety dive teams, scientific dive teams, commercial divers, scuba instructors, and recreational scuba divers. Both medical and non-medical dive team members, as well as those interested in dive medicine, are welcome to participate.

The curriculum covers topics such as the Physics and Physiology of Diving, Decompression Sickness, Cerebral Arterial Gas Embolism, Barotrauma, among others.

Skill stations include:

– Patient Assessment
– Vital Signs Assessment
– Neurological Assessment
– Airway Management
– Chest Decompression
– Trauma
– In-Water Skills (pool training)

Participants will engage in skill stations and scenarios using mannequins, practicing patient assessments, needle decompression, wound care, and hemorrhage control using tourniquets and hemostatic gauze.

Additionally, Scuba Instructors and Dive Masters affiliated with recognized diving certification agencies (such as SDI, TDI, ERDI, IANTD, NAUI, PADI, etc.) are eligible for DAN Instructor Certification upon successful completion of this course. This certification requires additional online coursework and a separate fee payable to DAN.
